Fascinated with the prospect of being a doctor since childhood, he completed his medical school training at the University of California at Irvine which he followed up with a residency in Neurological Surgery at the University of South Florida in Tampa Florida. He then acquired further training through a fellowship in Reconstructive Spinal Surgery at the University of California at Irvine and became a Fellow of The American Association of Neurological Surgeons, which accounts for the designation of F.A.A.N.S. after his name.

Receiving American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) certification indicates that a physician has the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to offer high-quality patient care. After initial certification, the fellow completes periodic training and takes oral and written exams to demonstrate ongoing competency in the field of Neurological Surgery. His board certification ensures that Dr. Etebar has mastery of the evaluation and treatment of disorders of the central, peripheral and autonomic nervous systems, pain management, and surgical and nonsurgical treatment of nervous system disorders.
